Cement Plant Electrostatic Precipitator Performance Evaluation |

Air Control Techniques, P.C. conducted a detailed internal inspection
of an electrostatic precipitator serving a cement kiln. This unit was
subject to opacities exceeding 80% on a long-term basis. The cause of
the poor performance was identified as a clearance problem at the point
that the high voltage bus duct was attached to the high voltage frame
support insulator. Based on recommendations from Air Control
Techniques, P.C., the plant was able to correct the problem in less
than 4 hours of total labor and a parts purchase cost of less than
$100. Following these changes, the unit operated consistently at
opacity levels less than 5%. Due in part to the low opacities, the
state agency did not require emission tests to demonstrate compliance.
