Venturi Scrubber Optimization Testing |

Air Control Techniques, P.C. conducted a series of diagnostic tests and
internal inspections of a new venturi scrubber to determine the reasons
that the unit failed to achieve the levels guaranteed by the scrubber
vendor. It was demonstrated that excessive emissions were due to a
combination of (1) liquid reentrainment problems and (2) the
penetration of particulate matter in the 0.1 to 0.3 micrometer size
range. Air Control Techniques, P.C helped the plant minimize the
reentrainment problems and demonstrated that the submicrometer-sized
particulate was due to the homogeneous nucleation of potassium chloride
vaporized from the limestone in the kiln. Because the potassium
chloride could not be economically controlled, Air Control Techniques,
P.C helped the plant re-negotiate reasonable permit limits.
